Unlike most fashion dolls, the characters are based from monster movies and horror fiction.[2] They are either depicted as being related to or are offspring of famous monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolfman. The Monster High franchise does not only limit itself to dolls, but to other consumer products as well such as plush toys, stationery, bags, accessories, apparel and various toys and electronics. The Monster High website opened on May 5th, 2010.[4] In the site, the viewer can access games, character bios and several downloads.[5] The site also produces the online webisodes for Monster High.[6] The site added one new webisode weekly (on fridays) from May 5th to July 30th. The series is currently on hiatus. The webisodes can also be viewed on Monster High's YouTube Channel.[7] A commercial for the website has aired in national television on August 5th, 2010 in the U.S..[8] Subsequently, a music video for the line was also created and can be found on YouTube.[9] Monster High's theme song the "Monster High Fright Song" is also available on iTunes.[10]
