Relative humidity is reported in percentages. The percentage relates to the amount of water vapor air of a given temperature holds when it is saturated. So the humidity is reported as 50%, if the amount of water vapor in the air is half of what the air could hold at its current temperature.
Relative Humidity is a measure of moisture in the air relative to the temperature of the air. It is reported as a percentage. By the use of a psychrometer the relative humidity can be determined.
The psychrometer has two thermometers attached to a sling one dry and one wrapped in a wicking material to keep it wet. By sling the psychrometer in the ambient air the wet bulb evaporates moisture and lowers the wet bulb temperature, this temperature is known as the dew point. The dew point is the temperature at which the air would be saturated with moisture and begin precipitating. By comparing this dewpoint with the dry bulb temperature (actual ambient air temperature) the relative humidity can be determined.
The formula for determining relative humidity is: (Formula is in degrees F)
RH = (WBT-32F) / (DBT -32F) this yields a percentage of moisture in the air.
for Celsius RH = WBT/DBT
Example:
WBT = 72F (22.22C)
DBT = 85F (29.44C)
(72-32)/(85-32) = 40/53 = ~ 75.5% RH
22.22/29.44 = ~ 75.5 % RH
This is called the Airs "Relative" humidity. The more water vapor in the atmosphere the higher the relative humidity will be.
If nothing else changes, the relative humidity will fall.
The purpose of the psychrometer is to estimate Relative Humidity of Air. It does it by getting the dry and wet bulb temperatures. Then Relative Humidity is read on a chart.
relative humidity increases. at a lower temperature, the air can hold less water vapour.
A hygrometer measures humidity. Don't confuse it with a hydrometer which measures density.

relative humidity
This is the measure of relative humidity. At 50 percent relative humidity, the air is holding half of what it could. It is relative humidity because it is related to the temperature and pressure of the air.
The higher the relative humidity is the lower rate of evaporation.
Relative humidity means the percentage of water vapor in the air compared to the total amount that could be contained. This is different at different temperatures. Here are a couple of sentences.The relative humidity is 10 percent.We studied relative humidity in class.
Relative humidity work with the amount of moist and water vapor that is all together.and that how all the vapor that is all together and that the type of moist that what call the relative humidity.
Relative humidity expresses a percentage of humidity in the air to the maximum amount of humidity that could be in the air. For example: when the temperature rises the air will be able to hold much more humidity so the relative humidity will drop.
