Why does your GFCI trip when you plug in the refrigerator?

A GFCI trips whenever it senses a grounding problem. Not grounding the outside surface of radios, fans, fridges, metal lamps and hand tools can put 120 volts on the device where you can touch it and possibly be killed. The GFCI trips so you will not be killed. Best to have an electrician check out your fridge. If it is OK, then the GFCI may be at fault.

GFCI outlet outside this line feeds your two bathrooms can you install gfci outlets in these 2 bathrooms?

Yes, you can install GFCI outlets in the two bathrooms fed by the line from the GFCI outlet outside. It is a good safety practice to have GFCI protection in bathrooms to help prevent electrical shocks. Make sure to follow proper installation procedures and consult a licensed electrician if needed.

How do you determine if an outlet is after or before the gfci?

You can determine if an outlet is after a GFCI by pressing the "test" button on the GFCI outlet. If the GFCI trips and cuts off power to the outlet, then that outlet is downstream from the GFCI. If power is not cut off, then that outlet is upstream from the GFCI.

How much amperage is needed to trip a 20amp GFCI outlet?

A 20 amp GFCI outlet will trip when the current exceeds 20 amps by a certain amount, typically around 5 mA to 6 mA, which is the typical trip threshold for GFCI outlets.

Do gcfi breakers operate with only hot and neutral ?

yes. A GFCI monitors the amount of current flowing from hot to neutral. If there is any imbalance, it trips the circuit.

Gfci trips before anything is plugged into it?

This could be caused by a ground fault in the wiring or a faulty GFCI outlet. You may need to have a professional electrician inspect the wiring to identify and resolve the issue. Avoid using the GFCI outlet until the problem is resolved to ensure safety.

Will starting current on a motor trip a gfci breaker?

A GFCI measures difference in output to return current. A Overload breaker in your panel is what trips from too much current. many are time delay and will not trip immediately from the less than a second of start up current spike.

How do you trace earth fault?

The methodical way is to remove devices one-by-one from the circuit and after each device is removed, reset the breaker or GFCI and see if it still trips.

Why should a ground fault interrupter be used with portable electric motor?

Unless the motor is used for SPA/pool type use, it does not need a GFCI. Motors can cause nusiance GFCI trips due to sparking at start up. Ideally motors should be operated on dedicated circuits.

Can a hair dryer trip a gfi receptacle?

Yes, a hair dryer can trip a GFCI receptacle if there is a ground fault, electrical short, or moisture present that triggers the GFCI's safety mechanism. It is important to ensure that the hair dryer and the outlet are in good working condition to prevent tripping the GFCI.

Do you need a gfci outlet if you have a gfci breaker?

Not if the GFCI breaker is supplying the circuit you are wanting to put the GFCI receptacle into.

Where are gfci outlets required?

GFCI receptacle's must protect any outlet that is within 6 feet of a water source, outside the home, in a garage, on a deck, in a sunroom, in a bathroom, unfinished basements, kitchens, & crawl spaces.
