Feed a cat portions of food once or twice a day (more than that if you have a kitten) so they don't eat too much all at once, or keep constantly eating, making it overweight. Feeding your cat at set times during the day as opposed to leaving a bowl of dry food out all day lets you, the owner, know exactly how much your cat is eating and thus easier to regulate if the cat needs to be fed less or more, or easier to spot any changes in its eating habits which could indicate a change in health.
