According to the Anne Frank Center-- Her diary, saved during the war by one of the family's helpers, Miep Gies, was first published in Dutch in 1947 -the language in which she wrote it. Her diary has been translated into 67 languages and is one of the most widely read books in the world.

The original title was: Het Achterhuis: Dagboekbrieven van 12 Juni 1942 - 1 Augustus 1944 (The Annex: diary notes from 12 June 1942 - 1 August 1944) . It was published by Contact Publishing, Amsterdam in 1947. The first print-run was only 1,500 copies!

The first edition in English translation appeared in 1952 in the US and Britain.
