MacMillan Cancer Support was established in 1911 after Douglas MacMillan, founder of the "Society for the Prevention and Relief for Cancer", saw his father lose in his struggle against the disease. MacMillan saw the amount of pain of suffering that cancer caused him and his family and wished to form a society of people to help those that would be found suffering from the same devastating issue. In 1924, the group became a benevolent society and changed the name to the "National Society for Cancer Relief" and was able to spread their influence even further.
