According to the interviews with the founders and curator of the Museum of the Terracotta Army, the precise discovery time was confirmed to be 29 March, 1974, nearly noon, with one head and one arm of a terracotta warrior being dug up. In fact, some fragments of terracotta warriors and parts of their weapons, such as arrowheads, had often come into sight of the local residents. Unfortunately, none of them were esteemed prior to that time. Because of superstitious thoughts in people's mind, some of the findings were even believed to be ominous, and taken back to their findspots. Thus, the Terracotta Army had to sleep and wait a little longer until the recent cocoon-break.

The Chinese Emperor Shi Huangdi created the Terracotta Army when he was ruling. It took 36 years to be created adn every soldier, horse, and wagon were hand crafted and painted. The tomb was found by two present Chinese farmers who were digging a well and dug up a clay head. The army was facing the place where enemies would come from. This emperor thought that by doing this he would be protected in the afterlife. In present day china you can walk through the exhibit. The terracotta army is made out of terrecotta which is the same material that is used to make the orange-like clay pots.
