The Lion King started being written in October 1991 when Lion King co-director Roger Allers joined the project while the film's screenwriters Irene Meechi and Jonathan Roberts joined the story team in summer 1992. Based on the website below, I assume The Lion King was written from 1991 to 1992 as the screenwriters had to revise the whole story and rewrite the second half of the film.
