The collapse of the Egyptian empire began around 1200 B.C. when Seti II was overthrown by his half-brother. Later he regained the throne only to die, leaving the Egyptian throne to his sick son. The young boy's mother then tried to take the throne of Egyptand the king lists trail off into anarchy. The chaos was aggravated by wandering raiders who came down into the Delta, as they generally did when Egypt's defense languished. The Nineteenth Dynasty came to a undistinguished end.
