The very first episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ever, was broadcast in England on September 4, 1998 on ITV. The first ever U.S. episode was broadcast on August 16, 1999 on ABC.
The original game show, which originated in Britain was created in 1998 by David Briggs. In 2000 the company released a board game. In 2006 the company announced that they were looking to sell the rights to the show.

∙ 15y agoIf you are talking about the top prize, the last time it was won in the U.S., was on May 8, 2003 by Nancy Christy from Tulsa, OK. She is a middle school teacher.
