Public schools are government-run institutions, and the First Amendment to the constitution doesn't allow the government to endorse any religion, because it is unfair to anyone who is not a member of that religion.

However, students are allowed to bring Bibles, pray, etc. on their own time and with their own resources, as long as it doesn't interfere with school activities.
