∙ 10y agoThe air that you inhale is held in the lungs and the oxygen is absorbed into the blood through the alveoli-capillary interface. This means that there is an exchange of gases across two membranes - taking in oxygen into the capillary and attachment of oxygen to the carrier protein, while detachment of carbon dioxide from the carrier protein and expelling it into the lungs. Most of the other gases cannot be exchanged similarly, and are just held in the lungs until expulsion.

Oxygen is a gas that is always present in Earth's atmosphere. It makes up about 21% of the air we breathe and is essential for sustaining life.
Oxygen is present in the Earth's atmosphere, making up about 21% of the air we breathe. It is also present in water bodies, where it dissolves to support aquatic life. Additionally, oxygen is found in the Earth's crust and is a component of many minerals and compounds.
The air you breathe in also contains nitrogen, which makes up about 78% of the earth's atmosphere. Other gases present in smaller amounts include carbon dioxide, argon, and trace amounts of other gases such as methane and neon.
Oxygen is commonly found in the Earth's atmosphere, making up about 21% of the air we breathe. It is also present in water, minerals, and organic matter.
The substance that helps balance atmospheric pressure in the body is nitrogen. Nitrogen is present in the air we breathe and enters our bloodstream, helping equalize pressure within our bodies with the external atmospheric pressure.

The plural form for breath is breaths. The word 'breathes' is the third person singular present of breathe (breaths, breathing, breathed).
