The num Lock key makes the number pad work for inserting numbers instead of doing the other commands which are printed below the number.

Some keyboards have and don't have the Num Lock key. If there is then just press the Num Lock or NmLk key. Sometimes you have to hold the Fn button with the Num Lock key. If there is no Num Lock key on your keyboard then just follow these steps: START -> ALL PROGRAMS -> ACCESSORIES -> ACCESSIBILITY -> ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD -> NLK.
Hold ALT and press the key with the 9 inside the lock. (above the 7 key on the number pad.)

It is the key marked: Num Lock. There should be a light showing on the keyboard when the Num Lock has been pressed and the numeric keypad can be used.
To switch off the Num Lock, simply look for the Num lock key on your computer's keyboard, and make sure it is set t off. (You can do this by pressing the key and then trying to type on the number pad on the right-hand side of your keyboard; if it's on, those keys won't work).

Switch on the 'Num lock' and press and HOLD the 'Alt' key, now type 236 on the num-lock keypad. Release 'Alt' key = Infinity symbol '∞'

Press the Num Lock key. It's in the top left of the keypad on my keyboard.
Hold down the Alt key, and with Num Lock on, type 0169 on the number pad.
