if the vehicle shifts and drives fine. the most probable cause for this is a high idle. most vehicles idle at around 650 to 700 rpms. when warmed up, check or clean the idle air control if idle is high. good-day !
Maybe that thumping noise is the sound of another car smashing into the rear of your car.
191 K maybe it just wants to retire and hit the boneyard in the sky.
The frist thing I would check would be the engine mounts.
Need a new gearbox. You get a grinding noise only in first gear when you accelerate fast . second gear and the rest should be fine.
Rotors are worped most likely
If it is a thumping and a front wheel drive car, it is probably one of the axles.
Most likely a bad tire.
The road might be very bumpy or might have big pebbles on the road.
If a car is making a metallic rubbing noise, but it is better in high gear, it could be a problem with the brakes or rotors. The brake pads might be so worn that they are touching metal to metal with the rotor.
Most probably the clutch plate.
Hard to say without hearing it and not knowing what the year, make or model is but, it could be a stripped gear box that operates the temp blend door.
sounds like a wheel bearing.
