No. You will know when you are ovulating, b/c you don't when your on the shot. That's how you don't get pregnant. The first time you ovulate after stopping the shot it might be painful, or just be sensitive where your overies are. I'm 24 and just got off the shot. I was on the shot for about 6 full years and just got my period back last month. It took about 6 months to get it back. I loved it because I never did have my period. I did talk to the doctor and they told me to get off of it after I got married. I just got married on the 23rd of May. She also stated that it was safe enough to take for up to 10 years if I wanted.

(they told me 7 days and this was 4 days after coming off my period) but the length of time may have something to do with where you are in your cycle.
