You should get a dog neutered at a veterinary facility, because they can provide the proper care that your dog will require. Check your local phone book to find a certified and qualified veterinarian near you that will do the procedure.

Go to your local animal shelter! The dogs there really need loving homes, and you can be sure that you're not supporting cruel puppy mills by adopting from a shelter. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING A DOG FROM PETLAND OR ANY OTHER PET STORE! These dogs come from puppy mills, inhumane breeding facilities that don't care about the welfare of there animals, they just care about the profit that they receive from selling to pet stores. Don't be fooled by cute pics on the internet; it's just a clever technique that puppy millers developed to fool people into buying their puppies. Responsible breeders are...... great; but if the breeder won't let you come to their home; STAY AWAY. Remember: SHELTER= GOOD, RESPONSIBLE BREEDER = GREAT, PET STORE = NO WAY!!

Rescue centers are great places to get dogs but only get a dog if you are prepared to care for properly and give it lots of attention. Your local humane society and rescue associations are good sources too. While I'm sure many might disagree with me, you could also consider buying one from an individual who has advertised in your local newspaper. Many humane societies across the USA.

You should avoid pet shops unless you thoroughly check out where they got the animals. Sometimes the dogs come from what are, called puppy mills. If you want more information about them, you can do a "puppy mills" search, but please be aware that they are not good places and a search is going to reveal some very disgusting pictures and information. If you buy from a pet shop that has dogs from a mill, you are helping to keep the mills in business, and that is exactly what it is to them: business, nothing more. However, there are organizations that rescue dogs from those mills and they would be excellent sources from which to buy a dog!

I've worked with pets all of my life, so I agree with the people who have answered already. Fun fact: More than 3/4 of pet shops in malls buy from puppy mills. If you're looking for a dog, adopt. You can't get information on a puppy mill dog, but rescues can tell what their dogs like, what they dislike and like, where they like to sleep and much more. They can tell you how the dog is with other pets and kids, but puppy mill dogs are unpredictable because they were neglected and hurt. I don't know many other rescues, but my family fosters for last day dog rescue.

Try using Pets4Homes, its a site which has loads of animals on it that people can no longer look after. I have a dog off that website and he is really happy. Also try rescue center like RSPCA, Dogs Trust and The Blue Cross.

There are not very many dogs trust or blue cross around but RSPCA there is one in bucks and i think many counties across the country.

Also if you type in "dogs" in the browser and the state you live you can find loads of dog breeders. Be careful what you get though, Some dogs can be very pricey, A king Charles caviler spaniel can cost up to 750 pounds so be careful of what you get and make sure you compare prices with the same breeds to get good deals.

For specific breeds, you can look online for the American Kennel Club or local breeders. For the more usual pets, the SPCA or animal shelter can provide good choices that are in need of homes. But if you are looking for websites where you can find dogs for sale than you can try to search for "Dogs for sale" as a search term. There are also several sites in the related links that sell dogs.

You can buy a dog at a humane society or a pet store.

I would not suggest purchasing a dog at a pet store because many of these dogs come from Puppymills. You don't really know what type of facility they come from or how they are treated.

If you are not going to save a dog from a shelter, but want a puppy to raise, I would suggest checking classified ads and do online searches for breeders in your area.

I would also suggest you do proper research when choosing not only a dog but the breeder it came from.

You could get your dog from a shelter or from a breeder do not get it from a puppy mill they are abused good luck
ANIMAL SHELTER! I would buy a dog from a shelter, you could save its life, you could also buy a dog from the internet, but I would do research on the website's dogs before buying them, don't want to support the wrong people! And do NOT buy from puppy mills, they are cruel places.

You almost always would want to seel your puppies at any ASPCA or humane society. That way, they can all be checked thoroughly as well as getting them fixed and vaccinated. That, or to close family friends or relatives so you know the puppies are in good, loving, safe homes.
