On my 2002 RAV4 the plugs are recessed into the top of the valve cover. There is a low voltage electical conector to 4 coil units that sit on top of the plugs. Above all of this is the removable portion of the air cleaner. Remove the front half of the air box and the 4 coil units will be easy to see. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the hold down bold and the coils should slip out easily. Then you can see the top of the plug about 2 inches below.
Remove the old plugs, install new plugs.

how to change spark plugs on a 2001 expedition
To replace the spark plugs on a 2001 Toyota Solara, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the ignition coil or spark plug wires, then use a spark plug socket to carefully unscrew and remove the old spark plugs. Before installing the new plugs, check and adjust their gap if necessary, then thread them in by hand and tighten them to the specified torque. Finally, reconnect the ignition coils or spark plug wires and the battery terminal.
