The Female, or accidental murder of a clansmen at a funeral ceremony. He murdered a sixteen year old son of Ezeudu, the man who's funeral he was attending when his rifle exploded and a piece of iron pierced the boys heart.
Okonkwo was exiled from his village for accidentally killing a clansman in a dispute during a funeral ceremony. He was exiled for a period of seven years as punishment for his crime in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Igbo people.
At first Okonkwo was dejected and bitter at having been denied his ambitions for seven years. However, he was shamed by Uchendu into focusing on the future. Although he is grateful to his motherland, he yearns for home. He becomes active in local politics in Mbanta, though he is disgusted by what he feels to be a womanly clan who is reluctant to take manly action. Ultimately, he remains mostly unchanged, still consumed with his goal to become manly and respected, though with an added hate towards the Christians and their supporting parties.
