Check your municipalities website. Where I live there are instruction on hazardous waste and Electronics disposal. We have a drop off point where you just roll up and they grab your stuff out of the trunk. or Check with your local garbage/recycling company. They may offer services (for a small fee) for recycling the old monitor. If not, then you'll need to research companies in your area that offer such services. Or, if it still works, donating it is always a good alternative. Schools, churches, and any local charities are usually good places to start. You definitely do not want to simply throw it out in the garbage. There is a good amount of lead in the guts of CRT's. So keep it away from the drinking water
it is important to dispose of a monitor properly because of the materials which are used crt monitors have lead in them and needs to be removed lcd monitors contain mercury which also needs to be removed.
