The Spanish had many deaths due to illness and withdrew leaving the battle outcome a draw. I believe O'Neil was the commander of the Spanish fleet, which then returned to Bacalar in what is now southern Yucatan. There is a contemporary account printed in a Jamaican newspaper which may be cited in King's work.
