On April 6, 1963, The Kingsmen (who are from Oregon) recorded what is to become the most famous version of Louie Louie at Northwestern Recorders in Portland, Oregon. About a week later, Paul Revere and the Raiders record their own version of Louie Louie in the same studio. There was an unsuccessful effort to make Louie Louie the official state song, but on April 2, 1986, "Louie Louie Day" was proclaimed by the state of Oregon. Miss. Oregon's confusion could stem from the fact that Portland's One More Time Around Again Marching Band plays it's version every year at the Rose Festival parade.
