Corum was the name of the family that owned the land before the Army Air Corps. Muroc is Corum spelled backwards.

Col. Boyd assigned him the Bell XS-1 test program. It was General Chuck Yeager's duty to try to accomplish what the old man sent him out to Muroc AFB, CA to do.

It was one of 26 test programs Yeager was doing at the time.

The country that broke the sound barrier would have air superiority.
