During The War, Marilyn's young husband was in the Merchant Marine, so she (like millions of other wives wanting their husbands to return soon) went to work at a munitions plant. _Yank_ magazine happened to be taking photos at that factory as a reminder that these women were busy helping the war effort. A few photos of Marilyn were taken, and the photographer suggested she try out at Blue Book, a local modeling agency. No surprise that she quickly became one of their top models, appearing on several magazine covers. Also no surprise that 20th Century Fox also noticed her and gave her a screen test.
