See Luke ch. 1 v 26-27 "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named NAZARATH....and the virgins name was Mary.

; They lived in a house in Bethlehem, and moved to Nazareth after returning from Egypt.

; Matthew 2 : 1-2, 11, 22-23 : Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

...

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him.

...

But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth. They lived in Nazareth, and traveled to Bethlehem because of a census. ; Luke 2 : 1-7 : And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

; As no specific times and dates are provided with the references to the events in Matthew and Luke there is room for both to be correct. What was important to the biblical authors was what happened, not necessarily the chronology. The biblical authors, in line with other historical writers of their day used certain known events to attach other events to by way of association. They did not have the modern western obsession with detailed chronology, nor did the calendar as we have it today exist anyway.

The assumption that difference equals disagreement or contradiction is not correct either in this place or anywhere else. The lawyer Ramm, illustrates this point by citing legal cases where numbers of witnesses give their different perspectives of an event such as a car accident or a murder. It is not accepted as an argument from the defense to say that because the witnesses do not present the same story that the event therefore did not happen. They all may simply attest to the fact of an event from their different vantage points. What varies is their perspective not the actuality of the event.

In relation to the differences in the accounts of Matthew and Luke, there are a number of reasons which would account easily for their differences. It could be their purpose in writing, their source of information, either first or second-hand, the particular facts they each wished to emphasize, etc etc

Based on the nativity account in Luke's Gospel, Christian tradition says that Mary and Joseph lived in Nazareth before Jesus was born. The young family had to travel to Bethlehem for a census, and returned to their home in Nazareth forty days after the birth of Jesus.

However, there is another account in Matthew's Gospel, which says that Mary and Joseph lived in Bethlehem before Jesus was born. There is no suggestion that they needed to travel to Nazareth, or even to leave Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus until Joseph was warned of danger in a dream, and they fled to Egypt. After the death of King Herod they began the return journey to their home in Bethlehem, but Joseph was again warned in a dream so they turned aside and travelled to Nazareth instead. It is clear from this story that Mary's home was in Bethlehem and they continued to live there for up to two years after the birth of Jesus.

God the Father has always lived in heaven. Mary and her Son, Jesus Christ, lived in Nazareth untill Jesus started His ministry. We do not know where Mary lived after Jesus died. Jesus went to live in Heaven with God the Father after He left earth.

Was Jesus born before or after Joseph was king?

AnswerThere never was a King Joseph among the Jews. You may be thinking about the legendary patriarch, Joseph with the "coat of many colours" who, according to the Bible, was taken to Egypt and rose to high office. Although credited with high office, he was never said to be king (or pharaoh) of Egypt. The time attributed to this Joseph was around 1900 years before the time of Jesus.Another Joseph was the father of Jesus, but he was a village carpenter, not a king.

What is the biography of the Virgin Mary before Jesus?

Little reliable information exists about the life of Mary before she gave birth to Jesus. Catholic Tradition says that her parents were named Anne and Joachim and she was probably an only child, being born fairly late in Anne's life. Wwe know that she traveled from Nazareth to near Jesusalem to help her cousin Elizabeth in her late stages of pregnancy with John the Baptist. She was betrothed to Joseph and married him. They traveled the 90 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem to register in the census in the ancestral home of Joseph. It was there that Jesus was born.
