Ned Kelly was ultimately hanged for the murder of Sergeant Kennedy at Stringybark Creek, so yes, he was convicted as a murderer, but with extenuating circumstances.

Ned was also a hero.

I could go on for hours on this subject, but will save you the suffering. There are dozens of books written on this subject and all have their virtues.

If you are sufficiently interested, get hold of a book entitled "The Kelly Outbreak 1878-1880" by John McQuilton and prepare to be enlightened.

Did Ned Kelly Murder anyone?

Ned Kelly was accused of many crimes committed in the south eastern area of Australia during the period known as "The Kelly Outbreak", even in places he could not possibly have been. What he was subsequently tried and hung for, was the murder of Sergeant Kennedy at Stringybark Creek. Kennedy had been mortally wounded in what was described as "a fair fight" between the Police and the Kelly Gang. Ned's version of events were that he could have left Kennedy to die in agony, or finish him off humanely, which is what he did. He even returned to cover the body with a cloak. The Victoria Police of the time were massively corrupt and many of the troopers were little more than criminals themselves. ["The Kelly Outbreak" (1878-1880) John McQuilton]

Would you live to die a hero or become the villain?

It would be good to live to be a hero rather than die by becoming the villain. Heroism is the fruition of self while villainy is the withering of character. Thus a hero really lives while the villain is already dying.
