Ralph got very excited and proud of what he had done and he finally began to understand the attraction that hunting held for Jack's tribe.

In an effort to be accepted by the hunters, Ralph throws a spear and hits the boar. Unfortunately, the spear doesn't stay in the animal and it runs away. Therefore, Ralph is unable to gain acceptance from the hunters.

Ralph ran because Jack had just thrown a spear at him with the intended purpose of killing him. The spear had tore the skin and flesh over Ralph's ribs. That spear was followed by two more which narrowly missed and the entire tribe were advancing towards him. Knowing that the death of Piggy had now removed all last vestiges of restraint Ralph simply ran in order to save his life.
At the beginning of the novel when Ralph, Simon and Jack are exploring the island they stab at a pig. They try to deny this after it happens because they don't want to come to terms with their actions.
