221 Baker Street was the address of the Abbey National Building Society in London. Abbey National used to employ one of its secretaries to answer letters addressed to Sherlock Holmes.

In the past (before he was married) Dr. Watson stayed with Holmes.

In stories set later on Watson has his own home with his wife.

Mrs. Hudson is the housekeeper for Sherlock's orderly chaos.
