Stephanie Brooks was Bundy's on/off girlfriend for several years. Brooks was very worried after reading about the killer's description in the papers. She thought that it sounded like Bundy. After talking to the police, they reassured her that it was probably not her boyfriend, and she left the station feeling at least somewhat relieved.
Brooks and Bundy were sweethearts while both were attending college but she broke it off with him and returned to her family in California. Bundy never got over her entirely. They eventually reunited and were engaged for a short while. Then Bundy broke it off, some feel just to get even when she broke his heart.
During this time, Bundy had begun to kill young college girls, and as the body count rose, the Brooks/Bundy relationship went south.
