Where did most of Earth's gases in the atmosphere come from?

• The very first gases were H and He, but they were primordial, and were soon lost.

  The methane, CO2, and nitrogen was probably boiled out of the rocks that formed the planet.

• A super heated young earth was bombarded with water ice asteroids and they boiled creating steam thus created the atmosphere

Scientist theorize that bacteria with chlorophyll in them slowly but surely began to multiply. And as they did, they photosynthesized enough to create an entire atmosphere. (as you know oxygen is a byproduct of photosynthesis)
