Well, we don't really know but we do know that he was the first to discover this new land. But then he didn't really tell anyone so they didn't really know. The only people who really did know was the king and queen of Spain. But then Amerigo Vespuchi came and "discovered" America. After that everyo…ne knew. This is also why America is called America....because of Amerigo Vespuchi. Otherwise, if Columbus named it, it would have been called Christopher, Columbia, Columus, or whatever. Sorry if my info might not be accurate for you but most of its true. ( Full Answer )

Although among non-Native Americans Christopher Columbus is traditionally considered the discoverer of America, Columbus was preceded by the various cultures and civilizations of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, as well as the Western world's Vikings at L'Anse aux Meadows. He is regarded more… accurately as the person who brought the Americas into the forefront of Western attention. "Columbus' claim to fame isn't that he got there first," explains historian Martin Dugard, "it's that he stayed." And the idea that he was first person to envision a rounded earth is simply false. The rounded shape of the earth has already been known in ancient times, although this came to be largely forgotten in the Middle Ages. By Columbus's time, educated men were in agreement as to its spherical shape, even if many or most people believed otherwise. ( Full Answer )
As far as we know, the Native Indians were the first people to ever live in America. If anyone sailed to America before, we may never know. But as far as facts and history tells us, yes, Christopher Columbus was the first person (or European) to ever sail to the Americas..
Hard to pick just one. He didn't know where he was going, didn't know where he was when he got there, returned without setting food on a land mass bigger than Europe, and did it all on borrowed money. Hmm, I guess he set an example for all bureaucrats and government employees.

Your obviously doing your history homework, right? You really should look this up but since I'm a nice person, here goes. The impacts that Chris made was the beginning of the age of exploration. He started the idea that the world wasn't flat and that anyone could sail to different parts of the world…. He also introduced spices and tobacco (drugs and smoking) to the Indians. Although I don't think that was a positive impact. Christopher also showed the Indians how to use guns. Hope you get an A+! :0) ( Full Answer )
