Isaac newton worked for most of his career at the University of Cambridge although he did some of his most important work in a small farm lab at his home, Woolsthorpe Manor when Cambridge University was closed for 18 months during the plague soon after he obtained his degree in August 1665. At the age of 54 he moved to London to take an appointment with the Royal Mint, first as Warden then as Master although he retained his title as Lucasian professor at Cambridge until his death.
