I presume you're asking about what's commonly known as spit shining. As a former cadet, I can tell you that the procedures you hear about lighting the polish on fire to liquefy it (to get lots of polish on in one application) or lighting your boots on fire, are generally more work than they're worth. You're better off just perfecting your spit shine technique. See this link; http://www.cadetstuff.org/how_to/200201_elliott_bulling.htm
This is how I've been doing my shoes and they come out looking pretty good. You will need:-A dust cloth (normal shoe cloth will do)-Normal BLACK shoe polish-Small quantity of water-Cotton pads, balls (or buds, but that would take long)-And spit your own spit.STEP 1: Spit (not Flem ) on the toe cap of your shoe, rub and repeat several times. Spit will sit on shoe, this is good.STEP 2: Take your cotton thing of choice (I use cotton pads) so I fold it into a quarter of original size.STEP 3: Dab the corner of the cotton pad in the water. Then squeeze the water out so the pad is damp.STEP 4: apply a small amount of BLACK polish to the corner of the pad. (if the spit has gone or is now low, spit on the shoe some more)STEP 5: starting in the corner of the shoe, in little circles, rub the polish into the shoe.Shoes will be dull for first few times, but don't worry because it takes time.PATIENCE!STEP 6: repeat a few times.TIPS:-If spit on shoe runs low, spit on it again and rub in. But DON'T if there is already polish on the shoe.-After about four layers on one shoe switch to the other.-If you get bits of cotton pad or ball on your shoe pick it off CAREFULLY and put a bit more polish on the pad. And continue to rub in.This has been working for me. So hope it work for you.
