One of the largest forced walks was the Cherokee nation from Florida to Oklahoma. This is called the Trail of Tears because of the loss of life and the crudity involved in forcing 4,000 men, women, and children to walk to the reservation in Oklahoma. Many other tribes were forced onto reservations all over the United States. Many of these still exist with Native Americans living on them.

As the 19th century progressed in the US, the continued policy of pushing Native American tribes became more aggressive. As one example, the Cherokee tribe was forced from Georgia and nearby states west. As far as the Oklahoma territory in fact. The forced march cost many lives. As the century continued and US treaties with the Native Americans continued to be violated by the US, it came to the point where the Native tribes rebelled. This for the white settlers and the US Army was the last straw. Before the century ended almost all of American Native tribes were living in reservations.
