The Nike company was technically started in 1964, as Blue Ribbon Sports. After several years, they introduced a shoe line named Nike after the Greek goddess of victory, and ultimately renamed their company to Nike in 1978

Nike is a female god, from the Greeks. Nike is the daughter of two powerful Greek figures, the Titan Pallas and the river Styx.

During the battle between the Greek Olympians and the Titans, Nike rejected her father's Titan ancestry and sat beside Zeus, the Greek Olympian god. When the Olympians won, Zeus felt they owed their accomplishment to Nike. Then, she became to symbolize victory and dominance in all things related to battle.

Nike became a good-luck charm during the Olympic games, when the Greeks would assemble their top athletes.

Her name can be seen on billboards worldwide, as the name Nike associates itself with the famous sneaker, to symbolize luck and victory.

Nike got its name from the greek goddess of victory Nikey. After the Battle of Marathon the greeks sent a messenger named Phidippides to tell the closest city that the Greeks had Beaat the Persians. he ran 24 miles, almost a marathon, and when he got to the city he yelled "NIKE" NIKEY" and then he collapsed and died from exaustion. Nike meant symbolized victory, that way the people knew the Greeks had won. and Nike the company used that as their name.
