English Horseback Riding is so much fun! I do English, and I have a blast! In English Riding, you usually use these just few basic items: (there will be more when you get further on, but this is what you will standardly use) An English saddle (3 different kinds: all-purpose, jumping, and dressage), a girth (goes around the horse's belly and holds the saddle on), a saddle pad (the pad that goes under the saddle and keeps it from rubbing your horse, and helps prevent your saddle from slipping), and an English bridle (the part that goes on your horse's head). Some other things you might in the future are: boots for your horse, a running and/or a standing martingale.
There are different types of English riding, but the three main ones are Hunter/Jumper, Eventing, and Dressage. Hunter/Jumper is where you jump and do flat work. Eventing is a three-day "event" that consists of Dressage, Stadium Jumping, and Cross-Country. Then there is just Dressage by itself, which is a series of difficult movements in which represents the bond between horse and rider. Have fun!
Oh, wow, this is a tough one. There are so many different kinds of riding. I suggest learning how to ride bare back. I ride mostly bare back, and I've learned how to ride the horses using my body and my mind, as apposed to relying too much on a saddle. But saddles are good too.
You ALWAYS want to have someone experienced with horses with you if you are an inexperienced rider. A helmet is MANDATORY!! Mount the horse from steps, or a leg-up. On a lead line, learn first how to stay in your center, and balanced. Once you have that, you can work on aligning your back so that your ear, elbow, and knee are in a perfect line. Once you and the horse aren't off balance, learn hoe to extend your energy toward the place you want to go. practice stopping by keeping your legs long, and bringing your hands to the naval. Try not to rise out of your seat in this one. Rather sit back and down deeper into your sits bones.
Horses want to be talked to. They need voice commands as well as body commands. Practice a strong "walk on" and "whoa".
You can't really just learn how to ride by being told with text... you need to get a riding instructor. Every type of riding is different, and every type of riding is very complex and would take too much space to describe. Basically just believe in yourself and follow your dreams!!!!!!!!!
I agree, you can't learn how to ride by reading this text. But I'll write some more. All my lessons will be in English. It will work in Western too. For a trot, sit back, heels down and slightly press your heels into the horse. For English (trot rising or posting) up down updown. Western- sit down in the saddle( if u find it hard squeeze with your legs also called legs active)
To pick up a canter sit back (squeeze left leg for right lead and left leg for right lead) bring your one leg back and kiss. Horseluver21
When your asking a young horse for canter you need to have contact or they wont understand bring your outside rein back but dont pull hard and bring back your outside leg and kick while you have a hold of the bit if you just kick away and throw your reins at then they wont understand and just trot faster.
There are A LOT of rules for horse riding. First when you sit on the horse, your back should be strait and you should be able to draw an invisible line from your heels to your head. next with your feet you are going to put them in those things called the "Stirrups". You should make sure that your stirrups are at the ball of your foot where you would stand on your ti pi- toes. Then you are going to push your heels down as far as they will go. Now for the things that you hold in your hands called the "reins" pronounced " rains". You have to rap your fingers around them and they put your thumb on top and then stick out your pinkies underneath. Next you squizz your ankles against the horses sides and that will get him to walk on.
Yes, Unless the horse has leg, back, or hip issues then ask the vet before you ride. You can hurt the horse more. Basicly some horses won't be riden no more because of those issues. So the horse will just be there to love or be friends wth the other horses.
Is a bad idea. Horses cannot see directly behind them and have the tendency to get nervous, often resulting in kicking out.

Riding a horse can be compared to riding a bike. if you do not have balance, you can throw the horse (or bike) off balance and/or slide off to one side.
Realy all you would call riding a horse for fun is just horse riding because you are not having a lesson if you are riding a horse for fun other wise that would be called horse riding lesson.
