The passenger door of a transit van was caught by wind and has hyperextended the hinges and the door does not fit the frame anymore so I can not shut the door. how can I fix this myself?
I do not know the term "transit van" but this should apply to any car door. Try to determine if it is the hinge or where it mounts that is the problem. Often either on the door or the frame where the hinge bolts on will pull out. Put a block of wood against the face of the hinge and hit it with a heavy hammer. Depending on the design of the hinge if it just has ears where it mounts, these can be bent. Unbolt the hinge and straighten them. Most hinges can be unbolted to be worked on, but some newer ones are welded to the body and only unbolt from the door. If you are built stout enough, you may be able to put your shoulder against the door and shove it back.
