I don't think you can unless you have a Dragon Amulet... If you do have one, though, go to Chaney's shop in Crystal Clear Lake for the first upgrade (second? I forgot, sorry) and then collect 5 Unlucky Doom Essences from the Haunted Castle (via Artix) to upgrade it again. After that, keep merging Unlucky Doom Essences at Yulgar's Forge in Battleon for any other upgrades.

you can't buy it. if you need them for doom weapons you'll need about 52 unlucky doom essences. It is too hard to get them by doing quests. So the quickest way is to use a trainer called df zero dark version . you can find it in cheats guru. when you are done with downloading it. open up a thing called quest reward cycler in df zero dark version. enter 141 in quest ID. Then click load quest. Haunted castle quest will appear. then click complete quest and after that click keep item. do this several times and you will have lots of unlucky doom essences. By the way the password of the df zero dark version is "dfzeroaccess".

Yes, if I remember right there's like 2 more quests from Artix you can get, and of course random quest from Artix too.

Where is chaney in dragonfable?
1. Go to Amityville 2. Talk to Thursday, the girl in front of the Town Hall, and click on "The path?" 3. Choose "Crystal Clear Lake" from the choices 4. Go south (defeating monsters as necessary), turn east the first chance you get. Go east as far as you possibly can, then turn north. That will take you to Chaney's shop. Inside you can talk to Chaney. If you're going to upgrade your doom weapon, you'll need a regular doom weapon and research materials (the latter you can buy from Chaney for the price of 5000 Gold). Only then can you go back to the Mysterious Stranger outside of Falconreach with your weapon and 5 Unlucky Doom Essences to finish the upgrade. (The Unlucky Doom Essences you can get by finishing the Haunted House quest: see Artix or Thursday in Amityville to start it.)
