The kind of mistletoe that we have out west is an invasive parasite that I've been told it can kill a tree if left alone. Mistletoe can spread rapidly as it has little pods that "pop" and throw a seed imbedded in a sticky substance for quite a distance which then sticks to another tree. The only way I know to abort its progress is to physically remove it from the branches it is adhering to. Nasty stuff!
