The anti-rattle spring on a 1990 Geo Metro rear brake fits on the brake shoes to help keep them in place and reduce noise during braking. It typically attaches to the brake shoe assembly, securing the shoes against the backing plate. Ensure the spring is properly installed to maintain optimal brake function and prevent rattling sounds. Always refer to a repair manual for specific installation instructions.
It usually clips between the inner pad's back and caliper.
To reinstall the anti-rattle spring on the brake pads of a 1998 Mazda 626, first ensure the brake pads are properly positioned in the caliper bracket. Align the spring with the holes on the brake pads and apply pressure to seat it securely. Make sure the hooks of the spring fit into the designated slots on the pads to prevent rattling. Finally, double-check the installation to ensure everything is tightly in place before reassembling the brake components.
Ensure the anti rattle clips/springs are attached to the brake pad or it will rattle. Some cheap pads do not vome with these clips/springs.
To install anti-rattle clips on a 1993 Chrysler LeBaron, first, lift the vehicle and remove the wheel to access the brake components. Then, remove the brake caliper and rotor to expose the brake pads. Place the anti-rattle clips onto the caliper bracket, ensuring they fit securely into place, and then reassemble the brake system by reinstalling the rotor and caliper. Finally, lower the vehicle and check the brakes to ensure everything is functioning properly.
Remove the plastic dust cap, drive out the 2 pad retaining pins, and remove the pads. Pay attention to the anti-rattle spring so that you reinstall it correctly.
You don't have to bend any, they should fit tight as is.
# Raise and support vehicle. # Remove the wheel and tire assemblies. # Compress the caliper # Remove the caliper slide pin bolts NOTE: Do not allow brake hose to support caliper assembly. # Remove the caliper by tilting the top up and off the caliper adapter # Support and hang the caliper. # Remove the inboard brake pad (1) from the caliper # Remove the outboard brake pad (2) from the caliper # Place an old brake shoe between a C-clamp and caliper piston. Bottom piston in the caliper bore with C-clamp. # Clean caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle spring guide # Lubricate anti-rattle spring guides with Mopar brake grease. # Install anti-rattle spring guides NOTE:Anti-rattle spring guides are not interchangeable. # Install inboard brake pad to the caliper # Install outboard brake pad to the caliper # Tilt the top of the caliper over rotor and under adapter. Then push the bottom of the caliper down onto the adapter # Install caliper to the rotor and then install the caliper slide pin bolts, Install wheel and tire assemblies and lower vehicle, # Apply brakes several times to seat caliper pistons and brake shoes and obtain firm pedal. # Top off master cylinder fluid level.
Pad insulators, anti rattle clips, or calipers are loose. The squeal you hear is the result of vibration of the brake pads.
Anti -rattle clips not installed or not installed properly
I believe there is an anti-rattle spring on those brakes. Check that one hasn't fallen off.If it has, pickup a brake hardware kit from the auto parts and install a new.Just had a similar situation with my Contour - one of the springs had sprung and just fell off. Luckily you don't have to totally redo the brake job.
this is a confusing question..but i think your best bet would be to consult your owners/chiltons manual. they lay it all out there for ya buddy. good luck!
usually the metal clips are anti-rattle clips to keep the brake pads from chattering in the caliper when braking, they also act as retainers for the pads
