A:The best source of information on the mission of Peter is found in Paul's epistles. Peter was principally domiciled in Jerusalem, where he was one of the three pillars of the church, along with James and John. He also travelled to Syria on a number of occasions.A second-century tradition is that Peter also went to Rome and was executed there, but Clement of Rome, writing (First Clement) just a few decades after the time of Peter, seems to have been unaware of this when he wrote about Peter. It seems very probable that Peter never went to Rome.

The apostles commonly believed to have died in Rome are Peter and Paul. However, there is no evidence that Peter ever went to Rome, and, while Paul no doubt went to Rome, it is uncertain that he died there. However, the greatest prestige that the bishops of Rome enjoyed in the early centuries of Christianity accrued to them because they claimed to be the custodians of the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul.
John the disciple went to the tomb, although only Peter went in. Consistently, John refers to himself in the third person, hence the reference in the Gospel of John to 'the other disciple'.
Saints Peter and Paul went to Rome to establish the Catholic faith there, but it was already set up by Our Blessed Lord and the Holy Spirit working through the Apostles in Jerusalem, thus they brought the Catholic Church to Rome, they did not go there to set it up.
