Lymph is basically the fluid that is between the cells of the body (interstitial fluid), and is basically the same as blood plasma.
It initially leaks out of the arteries because the blood in the arteries are under higher hydrostatic pressure than the tissues on the outside of the arteries. As it collects in the tissues, it is sucked up by the lymph system and returned to circulation in the subclavian vein.

∙ 13y agoLymph is a watery fluid (usually clear unless you have just eaten a fatty meal) that is found in lymphatic vessles and nodes. It starts as intersticial fluid between the cells of almost all body tissues, and from there enters lymphatic vessels to become lymph.
This is a cycle betwen blood, tissues and lymphatic vessles:
1) water leaves blood vessles to enter the intersticial space of tissues
2) intersticial fluid enters lymphativ vessles to become lymph
3) lymphatic vessles eventually enter the venous sytem and return the water to the blood.
