Jack-o-lanterns are made from carved pumpkins. This tradtion originally began in Europe, particularly Ireland, where they carved other root vegetbales, like turnips. In America, the tradition switched over to pumpkins because they were larger and easier to carve and more native to growing in the United States.
Jack-o-lanterns originated from the Celts and the Irish, Welsh, and Briton. The Celts thought they were like heads and heads held the spirit and wisdom of the body. They were used to ward of ghosts. The Irish, Welsh, and Briton would go and collect these "heads" and nail them to their doors. They also put candles in them to remember Stingy Jack a miserly man who tricked the devil and was condemned to walk the earth with his turnip lamp. When the Irish came here we switched to pumpkins which were more plentiful then turnips.
They originated from Ireland.

No, there is not any type of Halloween jackolantern stencils since all jackolantern stencils do require candles. Candles help to light up the hard work put into creating a jackolantern.

One of my favorite Jackolantern styles is to use the inside of the pumpkin in the Jackolantern. Once you have stenciled the pumpkin, take some of the insides and spread them around to add to the gore.

Using jackolantern stencils over orange and black construction paper can be a good way to decorate for Halloween at home. They can also be used over tissue paper to add a more eery appearance.
