The driver's side door handle will not open with remote or key on outside only after pulling handle and pressing interior button several times on 2001 Ford Explorer Sport?

I had this same problem. It will only get worse with time. You will need to replace the latch assembly. (The part that catches the striker bolt)Answer:There is a simple fix. I used it to repair my Sport just 2 weeks ago. There is a broken spring on the door lock. You will need to go the hardware store and buy a spring that has long ends. This repair can be made for less than $3.00.Remove the door panel and locate the door lock cylinder just below the lock you will locate a rod with a yellow plastic fitting. Take one end of the spring an connect it to the rod then connect the other end of the spring to the clip that hold the lock in the door. ( this will give the needed lift to allow the lock to operate) Note that if the spring is to tight it will prevent the lock from working, readjust the spring and try again.I have a pic that will help. If you need it I can email it to you.
