The Great Nebula in Andromeda, which is called the "Andromeda galaxy" and is more formally known by its Messier number as "M31 in Andromeda", is between the constellations of Andromeda and Cassiopeia. At this season (January 30, 2011) it is about 60 degrees above the northwestern horizon at sunset.

I recommend the open-source planetarium program Stellarium, available from www.stellarium.org, as being the best planetarium software program available. And it's free!

The best time to see the Andromeda galaxy, is mid-November. On November 15th, at 9:00 PM, Andromeda galaxy is almost at the zenith (directly above your head). On a very clear, preferably moonless night, look up, and toward the north. Look for a little "wisp" of light. It will be on a straight line from the north horizon to the south horizon, near the zenith, but a bit to the north. It is very rewarding in 10 power binoculars. To see it at other times of the year, you'll need to become familiar with start charts and the night sky in general - what I've given you is the easiest way to see it. Right now, (Feb. 1st) it is near the Northwest horizon at 9:00 PM, and harder to see.

Andromeda galaxy is the only thing viewable with the naked eye that is outside of our own Milky Way galaxy. Everything else you see in the night sky with your naked eye is within our own galaxy.

What is the best time to see the Andromeda galaxy?

* '''November is the best time to see the Andromeda Galaxy as it is darker in the night. Also when the moon is lit.'''

Is the Andromeda the core of the moon?

No, it is not. Andromeda is a contellation and the name of a galaxy visible in the northern night sky on Earth.

Is Andromeda closer to the milky way then any other planet?

You are mistaken to think that Andromeda is a planet. It is in fact a galaxy located in the night sky in the constellation of Andromeda. The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31 is the closest spiral galaxy approximately 2,500,000 light-years away.

What do galaxy mean in this sentence sometimes you can see the Andromeda Galaxy without a telescope?

Our solar system is part of the much larger Milky Way galaxy. Every star, in fact every thing - with one exception - that we see in the night sky is part of our Milky Way galaxy (I am including the large and small Magellanic clouds, because they are gravitational sattelites of our galaxy). The one exception is another galaxy - two and a half million light years away - that can just barely be seen with the naked eye on clear nights. We call that galaxy Andromeda, as we see it in the direction of the constellation Andromeda. There are believed to be billions of galaxies, but Andromeda is the one closest to us.

Is the Andromeda galaxy in the Northern Hemisphere?

The Andromeda Galaxy can be seen from the northern hemisphere. Above the 45th parallel it is circumpolar, meaning you can see it pretty much any time of the night. If you know where Cassiopeia is, the Andromeda Galaxy is a fuzzy patch of light visible to the naked eye (on really dark nights) between that asterism (the Flying W) and the constellation of Andromeda. The five bright stars that make up Cassiopeia--Andromeda is below the W. The rim stars are dim, even through a good 14" telescope you can generally only make out the core stars. Otherwise the galaxy would appear a bit larger than our own moon, from our perspective here on earth. Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away, and a bit bigger than our galaxy.

What galaxy is pegasus in?

All the stars visible in the night sky belong to our own Milky Way galaxy, including those that make up the constellation Pegasus. The next nearest galaxy to us is the Andromeda galaxy. This can be seen as a hazy speck through a pair of binoculars.

What was the instrument used to find the Andromeda galaxy?

Simply just a high tech telescope to see it in HD but you can see it with your naked eye in the night sky.

Are the solar system and all the stars in the space part of your galaxy?

The solar system definitely is, and most of the stars you see are as well. If you can see the Andromeda Nebula on a very dark clear night, that is a system of stars outside our galaxy.

Could you see Andromeda galaxy?

Under the correct conditions it may be possible to see the Andromeda Galaxy. Although, it does appear very feint in the night sky, it would appear roughly twice the size of the Moon if it were bright enough to be seen edge-to-edge. Its central bulge could be viewed if using a telescope or a good pair of binoculars.

What date was the Andromeda galaxy discovered?

There is no real discovery. It is visible to the naked eye, and so can be seen by anyone on a clear, moonless night. The first recorded mention of it was in the year 964.

Is the Milky Way galaxy?

Yes. The Milky Way Galaxy is our home galaxy. Our solar system is located in one of the outer arms of the Milk Way Galaxy. Our closest neighbor is the Andromeda Galaxy, which is 2.2 million light years away from us. There could be other beings there right now, looking at their own stars and their own constellations in their night sky...
