Data is stored on the hard drive. A hard drive consists of a spinning metal plate with a magnetic head directly above it that stores data on the plate magnetically as it spins.
There is also a newer technology available called a solid state drive, or SSD. These work in a similar way as a flash drive. Rather than having a physically spinning plate like a hard drive, they use microchips to store data.
