Assuming you have an Ecotec engine, you have a cartridge type oil filter. The access cap is below and to the left (driver's side) of the intake.
You may have a big plastic 'beauty cover' covering most of the stuff in your engine compartment. To remove cover for vehicle maintenance: remove oil fill cap; lift cover upwards; replace oil fill cap.
