A telephone country code should be written with a single plus symbol only. However, +37 is not a valid country code. Country code +37 was previously used for communist East Germany (D.D.R.), but there are now ten countries with codes in the range +370 through +379.

Country codes never begin with zero.

If your access code is 000 to dial out of the country, then 37 and another digit will be the country code.

  • +370 - Lithuania
  • +371 - Latvia
  • +372 - Estonia
  • +373 - Moldova
    • +373 2 / 5 - Transnistria
  • +374 - Armenia
    • +374 47 / 97 - Nagorno-Karabakh (landlines / mobile phones)
  • +375 - Belarus
  • +376 - Andorra
  • +377 - Monaco
    • +377 44 / 45 - Kosovo (mobile phone networks)
  • +378 - San Marino
  • +379 - Vatican City assigned

Country code +370 (dialed as 00 370 from many places) is Lithuania. Numbers should have 8 digits after the country code +370.

Vilnius is area code +370 5.

Kaunas is area code +370 37.

Other landline area codes begin with +370 3 or +370 4.

Mobile numbers begin with +370 6.

Universal landline numbers begin with +370 7.

Toll-free numbers begin with +370 800 (chargeable for international calls).

Premium-rate numbers begin with +370 9 (not accessible outside Lithuania).

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

There is no telephone country code +19. Telephone country code +1 is North America, including the USA, Canada, and 18 assorted islands in or near the Caribbean. The '9' is the first digit of the three-digit North American area code, but you need all three digits to narrow down the location any further. For example, +1 901 is Memphis, Tennessee, USA, but +1 902 is Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in Canada.
