There is no applications folder in Vista. However, you can find a folder called 'program files' in your windows partition. In program files, you can find your applications.
I have windows 8 too. All you have to do is windows button+r then type in %appdata%

Windows XP: Open the start menu, click "Run" then type %appdata%. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file. Windows 7: Open the start menu, and then type %appdata% in the search bar. It will open a folder with Roaming in it. Open that, and then click on the .minecraft file.
For Windows XP Go to: My Documents,For Windows Vista/7:Go to My computer or something like that,Then go to program files and its there
If you have:Windows Vista/7, click start and type %appdata% in the search bar. Click on .minecraft and it's all there! If you don't want to type anything go to 'My Computer', click on: C drive, Users, user, Appdata (it's a hidden file, so you'll have to have hidden files on), Roaming, .minecraft, and you're there!Windows XP, click start and then Run..., type %appdata% and click on .minecraft. Basically the same as Vista and Windows 7, except there's no search bar, so you'll have to use run instead.I'm not sure about Macs, you'll have to watch a youtube video or something.
To take a screenshot, you press F2, then find the "screenshots" folder in your ".minecraft" directory. If you are using Windows, this is usually in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming"
If you are on Windows, hit the windows key then r and type in %AppData% into the box. Then find the .minecraft folder and click on it. Then open the skins folder and you can toggle your skins by deleting them or adding new ones. Sorry, I don't know how to do this on Mac, Linux or other.
open up your minecraft.jar with a program like 7zip to find the META.INF folder. to find you minecraft.jar type %appdata% in your windows search bar and then look in .minecraft/bin
