∙ 11y agoTo reset the check engine light first lift and prop up the hood of the 2002 Nissan Sentra. Then proceed to remove the negative battery cable for five seconds.
A check engine light could mean many things on a 1988 Nissan Sentra. The light could mean anything to a fuel cap not being tight enough to bad spark plugs.

The 'oxygen sensor'may need to be replaced on '96 Sentra when the check engine light comes on. The should be replaced on the '96 Sentra every 100k miles for better fuel efficiency and to protect the converter.
Check with a Nissan dealer.
The computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. Have it repaired before it becomes serious.
Check the vacuum hose that feeds into the cruise module in the engine.
Make sure you have the ignition supply for the injectors. Check the starter signal input to the engine computer.

check the owners manual under maintence and service, all of the sentra engines are listed with the oil capacity the engine number will have a 18 in it, that is your engine. i believe it needs 4 to 4 1/2 quarts.AnswerI have a 2002 Nissan Sentra with a 1.8L. In the owner's manual, it states the engine takes 2 7/8 quarts with a filter change. it is correct
