there is no release you just push on the door near the hinge and it opens
There is no such thing as a 1998 190E, BTW - It was replaced by the C-class in 1993... On my Mercedes (1984) there is no cap lock, when you lock or unlock the doors, the gas latch (door) is locked or unlocked automatically.
On the 1993 Mercedes 190E, the fuel cap release is located inside the vehicle, typically on the driver's side. Look for a small lever or pull tab near the driver's seat, often near the door or on the floor. Pulling this lever will release the fuel door on the outside of the car, allowing you to access the fuel cap.
Its on the door panel next to the door handle. at least that's where it is on my 1992 190e 2.3
Well on my 1991 Mercedes Benz 190e the fuel release door is automatic. All you have to do is make sure all the doors are unlocked with the master key and then, go to the fuel door and lightly press in on the left side of the fuel door and pull from the right and it should pop open.
On a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E, the gas tank release button is located on the driver's side, typically on the lower left side of the dashboard, near the door. It may be labeled with a fuel pump icon. Pulling this button will unlock the fuel filler door, allowing you to access the gas tank.
On my 91 190e I had that problem once in a bit of a blonde moment. Apparently the gas tank door is linked to the door locks. The doors on the car must be unlocked for the gas tank door to open. I hope your problem is as simple as this.
Should be a 16 gal. I have a 1993 190e, and it has a 16 gal tank. By the way, there should be a sticker on the side of your filling door that says how big the tank is.
The Mercedes 190E typically features a central locking system that operates with a key or remote fob. The door locks are usually mechanical with an optional electronic locking feature, depending on the model year and trim. Some models may also have a vacuum-operated locking system. For specific details, it's best to consult the owner's manual or a Mercedes specialist, as features can vary.
make sure the trunk is unlocked - then just push on the forward end of the cover door and it should tilt open. The trunk lock will also lock the fuel door.
You have to remove the entire door panel. Some models are screwed on and some models just snap on. For the very best advise, take it to you closes Mercedes-Benz dealer. Good luck!
If you pull off the plastic shield inside the car you will see a couple of bolts that screw into the mirror housing. Watch out for small bolts dropping inside the door panel. Magnet-on-a-stick will help
